Promoting Health & Wellness Through Nature Immersion

Romantic Fairytale Yurt in a Private Forest

Step 1: Applying Wellness Through Nature Immersion

This year, treat yourself to a nature immersion experience like no other! Disconnect and retreat from the pressures of urban life. Decompress in the splendour of a stunningly beautiful, boreal forest in the Canadian Rocky Mountain foothill country. Sign of the Pines, a private forest with a 686 sq. ft., off-grid, solar-powered, eco-friendly yurt is located on the 12 + acres of the Double Raven hobby ranch. Write, paint, hike, cycle, take photos, or just breathe in Nature. Live the adventure.

Whether your artists or writers seeking a unique, meditative retreat and photo ops, or adventurers who are happy to hike or cycle for hours, you can find what you are seeking here. 12+ acres of a wild, boreal forest wonderland is at your disposal, so keep moving!

When you go glamping, you can spend hours just hanging around the campsite playing cards. You’re probably not going to get through too many games of crib outside in the evenings though, even with your warmest toque pulled down low. The air at this elevation, the same elevation as Banff, can get a touch chilly at night. Instead, you’re going to want to cuddle up next to the pellet stove in the yurt with a warm mug of hot cocoa and play a few of the complementary board games. Bring your bikes for an wonderful ride on smooth roads, or grab a complimentary walking stick, or your fishing poles and hiking boots and hit the game trails at the nearby Perrenoud Wildlife Habitat Area or Ghost Lake, a scenic 15 minute drive away. Explore the joys of the season.

Wear layers! There's a saying in the foothill country... if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes. So be prepared to add and subtract clothing frequently. That is unless you’re sitting around the campfire, singing to your favourite out-in-the-woods campfire song. Then you want to bring something thick to sit on and wear an outer layer of fire-resistant wool—a big sweater, a coat or itchy blanket—to make sure the wood and the singalong are the only things catching fire. Then you want to bring something thick to sit on and wear an outer layer of fire-resistant wool—a big sweater, a coat or itchy blanket—to make sure the wood and the singalong are the only things catching fire. Saturday nights, upon request, weather and fire regulations permitting, there may be a campfire in the fire pit up at the ranch house for roasting marshmallows under the stars.

You'll find a wood pellet heater with solar-powered lights. A generator is available for the extra cold nights if the batteries get low. Firewood for the Saturday evening campfire, and propane for the bbq in the warmer months are provided. This 686 sq. ft. of peace-filled living space is also used as a personal art retreat/studio space, but with a queen-size bed and artistically arranged furnishings it has a welcoming and comfortably rustic ambience. No need to search for an outhouse in the dark, either, there is a composting toilet ensuite.

There are no kitchen facilities inside the yurt, if you do choose to pack in your own food, a small selection of cookware, outdoor propane grill and bistro table with chairs is available for your use. Be aware, there is no cooking or food allowed in the yurt. All meals must be prepared and eaten outdoors. Your food and food waste must be securely stored in your vehicle. Pack out what you pack in, or stop in Cochrane, a scenic twenty minutes to the south, and sample the unique coffeeshops and restaurants.

Fifteen minutes north of Hwy 1A, we are resting in the gateway between the urban nightlife of Calgary or the majestic mountains of Canmore/Banff.  A scenic 35 - 50 minute drive on well-maintained, paved roads, east or west, will allow you access to the full amenities of either.

Step 2: Upgrade Your Experience

The Double Raven is a small, working equine ranch set in a stunningly beautiful combination of alpine meadows and boreal forests. There is always someone onsite to answer any questions you may have about the ranch, about things to do here or in the area.

Create and personalize a weekender that's just right for you.
